Join us for a series of discussions centered around natural disasters — like earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and hurricanes — and how they can affect the lives and livelihoods of people here in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Annual Sub-Arctic Seas meeting coming to UW, June 15-17

The Ecosystem Studies of Sub-Arctic Seas Program (ESSAS) will hold its 10th Annual Science Meeting in Seattle over three days, beginning June 15. Cosponsored by the College of the Environment, and in coordination with the Future of Ice Initiative, the meeting will feature several speakers who will address topics associated with the ecosystem changes being documented or predicted in the Arctic and sub-Arctic, and the effects those are having on people and economies connected to the region.

The festive vibe at the College of the Environment’s 1st Annual Spring Celebration provided a perfect backdrop in which to bid adieu to the academic school year and congratulate the College’s 2014-2015 award winners. Focused on College faculty, students, and staff, the event was an opportunity for friends and colleagues across all departments to gather and celebrate. As attendees mingled, members of the College’s Executive Committee served up ice cream sundaes.

Celebrate Earth Day at Red Square, April 22

Join in on the Earth Day festivities with Dean Lisa Graumlich and others at the central UW Seattle Earth Day Celebration at Red Square on April 22! Marking the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend. An important day celebrated at the University of Washington since the very first Earth Day in 1970, it’s an opportunity to appreciate and recognize the year-round environmental stewardship and sustainability efforts across all UW campuses.
