During the 2015 fiscal year, which closed June 30, the College of the Environment was the fortunate beneficiary of a record number and amount of gifts and private grants—$13.8M from 3,030 distinct donors, including alumni, friends, corporations, foundations, and other organizations! We are grateful for every donor who supported the College and its many academic units and programs in the past fiscal year.

Ivan Eastin to serve as College's Associate Dean for Research

Ivan Eastin

Professor Ivan Eastin has agreed to serve as the College of the Environment’s Associate Dean for Research, effective October 16. In this role he will foster multidisciplinary collaborations, promote and support the range of basic and applied research programs across the College and University, and help faculty identify opportunities to partner and collaborate with universities and research organizations both in the US and around the world.

Sierra Club ranks UW one of the greenest universities in the U.S.

The University of Washington was recently named one of the country’s greenest universities by the Sierra Club. Sierra magazine, the group’s official publication, put UW at No. 8 in its 2015 “Cool Schools” rankings—marking the sixth time in nine years UW has been included in the top 10. The publication ranked more than 150 schools based on an extensive survey covering campus sustainability practices, including the availability of organic, local foods, waste systems that divert trash from landfills, transportation options that keep students and staff out of cars, and more.
