Celebrate Earth Day at Red Square, April 22

Join in on the Earth Day festivities with Dean Lisa Graumlich and others at the central UW Seattle Earth Day Celebration at Red Square on April 22! Marking the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend. An important day celebrated at the University of Washington since the very first Earth Day in 1970, it’s an opportunity to appreciate and recognize the year-round environmental stewardship and sustainability efforts across all UW campuses.

College purchases carbon allowances in honor of new graduates

The end of spring means graduation and many opportunities to shine a light on our graduates’ accomplishments. In appreciation of their contributions to the College of the Environment and in celebration of their achievements, the College has purchased and retired 400 carbon allowances for the more than 400 graduates in the Class of 2014.  Recognizing our students as the next generation of leaders in environmental science and decision-making, we believe this is a contribution that showcases our collective commitment to the sustainability and well-being of our society and our planet.

College Advisory Board member Denis Hayes in Northwest Prime Time

The College of the Environment is fortunate to have a tremendously talented group of individuals that make up our Advisory Board–and Denis Hayes is one of them. He is the President of the Bullitt Foundation, an organization whose mission is to safeguard the natural environment by promoting responsible human activities and sustainable communities in the Pacific Northwest. Notably, the Bullitt Foundation’s headquarters are housed in the brand new Bullitt Center, billed as the greenest commercial building in the world.
