Students looking to join the College of the Environment need to apply to the University of Washington first. The Office of Admissions provides information for future freshman applicants, including students enrolled in Running Start, and future transfer student applicants. Attending information sessions offered by the Office of Admissions is a great way to start planning for your application.

student talking with adviserDeclaring a major in UW Environment

All majors in the College of the Environment, with the exception of Bioresource Science and Engineering (BSE) and Atmospheric Sciences (ATM S), are open majors, which means that if you select one of our majors on your application, you will automatically be declared in the major. If you select BSE on your application you will be declared pre-BSE; if you select ATM S you will be declared pre-ATM S. This decision is not binding and, if you change your mind, you can switch to another major. Not sure which major is right for you? No problem- you can select “pre-Environmental Sciences” on your application and decide later.

If you are already a student at UW and would like to declare a major in the College of the Environment, please contact a departmental adviser to set up an appointment to complete the major declaration paperwork.
