Seelye Martin

Professor Emeritus

Oceanography

Seelye Martin is an oceanographer who studies the dynamics of sea ice in the Arctic. Using remote sensing tools, he measures ice growth and melt, and looks at the relationship between these processes to the regional oceanography of the Arctic Ocean, the Bering and Chukchi Seas, and, off the coast of Russia, the Sea of Okhotsk. He is the author of An Introduction to Ocean Remote Sensing, and in recognition of his years of service, he was recently awarded the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal.
