Support for Diversity-Oriented Activities and Inclusive STEM Outreach

The College of the Environment supports students, staff, postdocs, and faculty interested in organizing and hosting a range of activities that include meetings, workshops, retreats, trainings, educational outreach, or other special events to raise awareness and promote dialogue about one or more of the multiple dimensions of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Criteria

Students, faculty, postdocs, and staff are encouraged to submit proposals for creative and innovative activities and programs to help further a climate of inclusiveness in the College of the Environment. Proposals should enhance/create learning experiences, events, and programs.

Priority in funding will be given to proposals that:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion values, through a commitment to:
    • Ensure the participation of historically underrepresented students, staff, and faculty; or,
    • Increase the retention of historically underrepresented students, staff, and faculty
  • Demonstrate alignment with the UW Diversity Blueprint
  • Reflect collaborative efforts between two or more groups and/or units
  • Promote inclusive STEM outreach efforts or promote equity and inclusion capacity building within the College
  • Be cost-effective
  • Leverage matching funds from other sponsors

Funding

Support ranges from $300 to $1500, depending on the size and impact of the project.

Awardees will be required to submit a brief report within one month after the event that documents total costs, including what specifically the College’s support was used for; the total number attendees, including the number of College members involved; and a description of how diversity, equity, and inclusion was advanced within the College. We strongly encourage organizers to collect data through surveys or other methods to demonstrate that your program/event met its goals and outcomes.

Funding may not be used for:
